Director's Note
Welcome to the Renaissance!
Something Rotten Jr. is a truly massive musical. It is a musical ABOUT musicals and it is the musical to end all musicals!! To mount a production of this scale at all is a huge feat, but to pull it off in two and a half weeks is just extraordinary. The show you see today is a profound testament to the talent, vigor, and determination of this incredible cast.
They worked with unbelievable speed and efficiency, but what really stands out most is their spirit. The joy, fun, and friendships that they have built together onstage and off is immediately clear and I’m sure you will see that in their performance today!
The whole process of putting this show together was a deeply creative collaboration. These young artists literally built this world, hand-crafting many of their own props and making their roles their own with brilliant, unique ideas. Please give them your biggest applause and loudest laughter!
As a director, my greatest joy is watching a cast take ownership of the show they have created. This is truly their show, and they should be unbelievably proud. I know I am. Shakespeare once wrote: “To Thine Own Self Be True” - and by bringing themselves to every part of this performance, this show really does ring true.
Enjoy this star-lit, won’t quit, big hit MUSICAL!
