Getting To Know Our Winter Staff #13
Over the next couple of weeks, we will introduce you to the faces you can find at DLC teaching classes this winter! Next up is Ms. Kristina!
Meet Our Teaching Artist: Ms. Kristina
What can students expect from your class?
Students can expect to learn a ton! We are going to learn about the history of the songs we are learning and the people who created them. I taught MT Classics over the summer and students really loved the lessons, so I can't wait to share them with a new group who will hopefully love them just as much!
What’s your favorite winter memory & why?
Winter is my favorite season so I don't know if I have one particular favorite memory. But one that comes immediately to mind is that one year when we were kids we had a really big snow, and my sister and I built an entire snow fortress in our yard. We had a wall and a moat with a bridge and we had a snow house with windows and doorways and functional seating.
What is your fondest memory of teaching/directing for DLC?
Again I don't know if I have one particular favorite memory after years of making great memories, but I love how much I have learned from being a teacher. I was really hard on myself when I was a kid, so what is most amazing to me is seeing it from the other perspective and seeing that it really is okay to not be perfect. All the teachers really care about is that the students are coming to class with positive energy and having a good time!
Tell us one fun fact about yourself!
In addition to teaching, I am also a professional puppeteer! I have a Master's Degree in Puppetry and do professional puppet shows in the DC area! I also make puppets and I try to pass my love of puppetry along to my students whenever I have the opportunity! I will be teaching a puppetry workshop for DLC this session with another puppeteer friend of mine, so be sure to sign up for that if you haven't already!
Kristina is scheduled to direct our School's Out Workshops "Puppetry" & "Mary Poppins," as well as several of our onsite and offsite Musical Theatre Classics showcases! Learn more about our classes and register for one today on our Winter Session page.
